The best hangover cures
Look at that hungover polar bear for a moment. My head is killing me beyond belief right now. If your reading this post at the current moment your probably just as hungover too, or your just being productive actually making moves right now. Well anyway the term hangover was originally a 19th century expression describing unfinished business—something left over from a meeting—or "survival." In 1904, the meaning "morning after-effect of drinking too much" first surfaced. As you may already know ethanol has a dehydrating effect by causing increased urine production, which causes headaches, dry mouth, and being a lazy fuck. Dehydration also causes fluids in the brain to be less plentiful. This can be mitigated by drinking water after consumption. Alcohol's effect on the stomach lining can account for nausea. Another contributing factor is the presence of products from the breakdown of ethanol by liver enzymes. Ethanol is converted to acetaldehyde by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase, and then from acetaldehyde to acetic acid by the enzyme acetaldehyde dehyfrogenase. Acetaldehyde (ethanal) is between 10 and 30 times more toxic than alcohol itself. Beside all that you just want this sucker gone for good. So here are the best ways to do it.
Avoid Caffeine- Caffeine dehydrates just as much as alcohol (the opposite of what you want).
Don't grab coffee or soda instead stick to water or some of that gatorade.
Drink Clear Alcohol (for prevention)- They say the darker the alcohol the nastier the hangover. Dark alcohol tends to contain a substance called cogeners. These types of alcohols are more likely to cause hangover symptoms. White wine, vodkas, light rum are examples of clear alcohols. Red wine, dark rum, sherry, brandy are high in cogeners. Beer is in between, mostly depending on how dark it is. This should ease some of the pain for the morning after...that sounded funny didn't it?
Bananas- Bananas have sugar in the form of fructose. They also contain potassium, which is one of the nutrients you lose the most of when you drink. Bananas are also a natural antacid which can help out with nausea. They are high in magnesium which can help relax those pounding blood vessels causing that hangover headache. Keep some of these around you in the morning and your golden. Plus they're awesome!
DRINK WATER- The single most important rule! If you don't do anything else just make sure you drink drink drink away.
Eating Fried Foods- Although eating fried or fatty foods the morning after will most likely irritate a drinker’s stomach more than it already is, eating them before drinking can actually be useful. Putting something in the stomach prior to consuming alcohol helps prevent a hangover, but fatty foods in particular work very will by sticking to the stomach lining longer and therefore slowing down the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream. While this might make it take longer to feel the alcohol’s effects, it will also give your body more time to process the byproducts and will increase a drinker’s chances of feeling not so hung over the next morning. In fact the Mediterranean folk tactic is to take a spoonful of olive oil before drinking alcohol. Have fun doing that I'll stick with just food.
Hope this was helpful to get your ass out of the house. Leave your thoughts as always.
