Moral Dementia
In Newton's laws of motion, every action has an opposite and equal reaction. Besides this being law in the physical world does this law play an important factor in our lives on a moral standpoint? Do we truly get what we deserve or is life just as random and chaotic as this question? Lack of sleep and overall being burnout compels me to write this down as if I'm actually going to solve this on my own. When I think about moral dilemma I tend to think about the true battle of selfishness and selflessness. When you start to think about it, isn't that the basis behind the majority of every moral choice in life? Is it always better to put others before yourself? In most cases, the majority would say it is but for what reason? Is it because we expect this in return from those we help? That sounds pretty selfish to me. Think about people who jump on the bandwagon to help someone out for recognition. Is the motivation for doing good things immoral? Because if that is the case then I'd say the majority of us suffer from Moral Dementia (please don't look up the term because the term doesn't really exist). There is an old Judaic principle about charity in that when you donate a large amount of money or contribute in another charitable way that you do not stake your name on it. Why? Because you do not do these deeds for your own fame. People who speak out on the news to support a cause for their own airtime. People who act overly friendly because you are looked at as successful and useful. People who kiss your ass when you know exactly what they're after. It truly is hard to express yourself honestly in a world full of fake moral standards. The only cure for Moral Dementia is honest expression. Sometimes I need to help myself before others and sometimes I will go out of my way to help those I care about. The balance of the two sides is what people need to embrace. In life, some people will only claim to do what moral standards in contemporary society tells them to do, and the others will be honest about it.
"Ultimately, martial art means honestly expressing yourself...it is easy for me to put on a show and be cocky, or I could show you some really fancy movement…But to express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself, and to express myself honestly…Now that, my friend is very hard to do"
